Think you've had a
BAD DAY at the Lake?
What Happened here???
Think you've had a bad day at the lake? It could be worse. One weekend, two boats, two separate run-ins with the shoreline rocks. The boat on the left is what is left of Gary Price's Sport Hydro. Gary spent several sleepless nights building it, and got it built and ready to run in just one week. During Open Water before the big race in Celina, Gary lost radio control, and what resulted was an intimate encounter with the rocks. His left sponson was completely destroyed.
Lesson Learned: There is an old myth that painting a race boat green will bring bad luck. Gary just proved this myth to be true. So boaters BEWARE of green paint!
Well, since Gary destroyed the Sport Hydro he was going to race, he was extremely happy that he packed his Whiplash Sport 40 as a "backup". Gary made it through several rounds with his Sport 40. And in the last round, it was FLYING! At one point in the race, Gary's boat and two other boats painted with yellow were all bunched together. Once the group of boats spread out, Gary made a driver's "error": His eyes and hands were following another yellow boat. The result: His Sport 40 hit the shoreline rocks (actually, more like concrete boulders) at full-throttle. When he was told that his boat just hit the rocks, he denied it because he was following the wrong boat. A few moments later, he learned about his error.
The whole situation just made our CMBC club members want
to
!!!!
Lesson Learned: #1: Paint your boat an unpopular color, like PINK. #2: If there is more than one boat with the same colors, make sure your eyes are on the RIGHT one!!!
